Introduction

Welcome to Bookie's Focke-Wulf 190 and Ta 152 page. This page is the result of a number of years of research into the aircraft featured, Kurt Tank's Focke-Wulf 190 / Ta 152. This aircraft performed outstandingly throughout World War II, serving in large numbers with the Luftwaffe, and also in a handful of smaller nation's air forces. It performed almost every role possible for a single-engined aircraft, and proved to be successful as a fighter, fighter-bomber, reconnaissance aircraft, trainer and night-fighter. Its main role was as a fighter, and in this role it excelled, dominating the European skies for more than a year after its introduction into service in August 1941. The FW 190 retained a certain superiority over Allied types throughout the war. Continual development resulted in new variants, eventually seeing a radical change in shape with a new engine fitted to the FW 190 D (Dora), and in the final months of the war, the Ta 152 (designated Ta to honour designer Kurt Tank). By the end of the war more than 20,000 had been produced, and the FW 190 had become one of the world's great warplanes. This page is a tribute to the aircraft and its pilots.

If you have any questions, please go to the Questions and Contacts page.

After a long break, I've finally updated the site. A number of pages have been modified. The 14.(J)/J.G. 5 article has been updated with new information. Jack's photos have been updated with new caption information. More photos from Piet van Wyk de Vries have been added to the FW 190 in detail page.

NEW PAGES
I've added a page with the order for the creation of 4./S.G. 5 from 14.(J)/J.G. 5. Also new is an article about S.G. 4 aircraft codes. Another new article is III./S.G. 4 aerial victories, listing all known victories by this Gruppe. The Kitzingen page has been updated with some new information. I've added more FW 190 data plate photos to the data plate page. Thanks to those who contributed the photos. Finally, my article on the Focke-Wulf 190 G-8 will be the first in what I hope will be a series of articles, each outlining the production details of one of the FW 190 ground-attack variants.

In July 2004 the book by Morten Jessen and I, The Focke-Wulf 190 in North Africa, was published by Classic Publications. It has 80,000 words of text, footnotes, 100 photos, 15 colour profiles by Claes Sundin, full loss and victory lists, camouflage information with assistance from Ken Merrick, and more. We are working on some more book projects. I'll keep you updated about them here. One of these projects is a sequel to the FW 190 in North Africa book, this time covering FW 190 operations over Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, Italy and southern France. Another is about the air war over Courland in Latvia in 1944 and 1945.

Thanks to the many people who have contacted me via email with information, artwork, photos and corrections for the site. It is always appreciated.
